Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

The Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program at New Horizons was established in 2017 to address the opioid epidemic impacting individuals, families, and even entire communities across Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties. The program is an intensive outpatient service that moves the recovery model from an “abstinence-only” approach to a “harm reduction” approach. Clients receive compassionate counseling, medical assessment, and medications (Vivitrol, Suboxone, Subutex) that prevent withdrawal symptoms while providing an opportunity to improve quality of life. Peers – people who have lived or experienced substance use disorders – are an essential component of the MAT program, offering clients a unique understanding, empathy, and proof that recovery is possible. The MAT clinic, located at 4500 W. Midway Road in Fort Pierce, also distributes Narcan to the community at no cost. Narcan can be an antidote for an opioid overdose. Having Narcan on hand is recommended if you have an opioid addiction or know an opioid addict; it could save a life.  To schedule an appointment, please call (772) 672-8448

Children’s Services

The Frances Langford Children’s Crisis Center was funded initially through the generosity of the Frances Langford Foundation. This 20-bed facility provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for children ages 6 through 17 with mental health and/or substance abuse issues and need crisis intervention.

Outpatient Therapy Services provides mental health and substance abuse services for adults and children in our four-county areas. Clients may be referred by family, a community agency, or the courts or may be self-referred. Comprehensive social, psychological, and psychiatric evaluations are provided. The appropriate treatment will be provided for adults, children, and families based on the evaluation and diagnosis.

Case Management Services provides case managers who serve as coordinators for children and their families who are in need of services from many community agencies. A New Horizons team links families to community resources and advocates for the family when needed. They provide services in the home, school, and community.

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a substance abuse prevention conducted in elementary and middle schools in St. Lucie County to educate youth on the dangers of substance abuse. The educators help students develop greater self-esteem and coping skills individually or in small group sessions. This program is evidence-based. Across the country, this program has proven to be effective. It is partly funded by the Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie and the Department of Children and Families.

The Community Action Team (CAT Team) is a self-contained, integrated, multi-disciplinary team providing comprehensive, intensive, community-based treatment to families with children and youth at risk of out-of-home placement due to a mental health disorder.  The CAT Team consists of a Team Leader, Mental Health Professionals, Wraparound Certified Case Managers, Therapeutic Mentors, a Psychiatrist, a Registered Nurse, and Support Staff. The CAT Team serves children ages 5 to 21 with a mental health diagnosis or mental health and co-occurring substance abuse diagnosis, at risk for out-of-home placement for whom traditional services have not been adequate.

Telehealth Services

Telehealth uses electronic information and telecommunication technologies to provide care when you and the doctor are not in the same place simultaneously. If you have a smartphone, you already have everything you need to get care or services through telehealth. Although virtual visits may not be as common as traditional in-person doctor’s appointments, many benefits explain why this type of care is gaining popularity.  Discuss any disadvantages or risks with your doctor.  Contact us today to see if your provider provides telehealth appointments (772) 468-5600.
