Special Programs

Psychiatric Services

Psychiatric Medical services are provided to adults, children, and adolescents. These services consist of crisis intervention, diagnostic evaluation, medication management, and other treatment recommendations; such as inpatient or outpatient treatment. Inpatient services provide psychiatric stabilization on the ASU, residential care/treatment, rehabilitation on the Short Term Residential unit, and chemical dependence detoxification. Discharge from an inpatient unit ideally results in seamless transition into the community with referral for follow-up care. Outpatient services are directed towards maintenance of the individual in the community, a focus on recovery and resilience, and prevention of relapse. These services are rendered by physicians, nurse practitioners, and licensed mental health providers.

Transitional Group Home

The Transitional Group Home on our Midway campus is in every way a home for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness who have major skill deficits in activities of daily living and independent living. In this 16-bed supervised setting, they learn to take responsibility for their recovery, practice coping and life skills, gradually gain independence, and eventually transition back to the community.

Admission to the home is only through the state hospital system.

Short Term Residential

The Short-Term Residential Treatment (SRT) program has been established to serve the community by offering a multidisciplinary treatment approach to persons who need continued stabilization and an opportunity to re-motivate, re-socialize, and continue on the road to recovery. SRT is designed to empower each individual and support the recovery process to lessen symptoms of mental illness and co-occurring disorders while restoring function to nurture the return to an optimal level of independence and enhance the quality of life.

Mental Health Court

Mental Health Court helps individuals with mental illnesses who are charged with a crime in St. Lucie County to navigate the judicial system and receive appropriate services and treatment in the community instead of within the jail system. This innovative program is a collaboration among the judicial system in St. Lucie County, the Public Defender’s office, the State’s Attorney’s office, New Horizons, and area mental health and substance abuse treatment providers.

Injection Clinic

The Injection Clinic serves clients living with schizophrenia who find that Clozapine is the most effective medication for managing their symptoms. The Clinic follows a drug regime that is tightly monitored according to guidelines established by the FDA.
